The feature of the Choshi area is that you can enjoy it all day long. From the "sunrise" that is said to be the earliest in Japan, to the "sunset" that sinks into Byobugaura, and the night views in various places. During the day, you can enjoy 360-degree panoramic views, strolling along the Byobugaura promenade, and enjoying a wide variety of fish dishes and shopping.
Sightseeing spots in the Choshi area are within a radius of approximately 3 km, and the main means of transportation are the local private railway (Choshi Electric Railway) and taxis.
Physically, the person is at a level where they can fully operate a wheelchair and move around, such as with lower limb paralysis.
In terms of facilities, there are some challenges, such as stairs and slopes within a certain range, but they are at a level where they can be used independently in a wheelchair.
This facility is built on topography with differences in elevation. The "Choshi Port Tower" side is highland, and the seafood sales center "Wosse 21" side is lowland. The restaurant "Uosse 21" is located on the 2nd floor of the seafood sales center, and "Choshi Port Tower" and the restaurant "Uosse 21" are connected by an aerial bridge. If you use the elevator, you can move around the entire facility in a nearly flat manner in a wheelchair.
Choshi Port Tower is a 57.7m tall fully glass tower located on a hill overlooking Choshi Fishing Port. From the top floor, you can see the Choshi fishing port with fishing boats coming and going, the Choshi townscape, and the vast horizon of the Pacific Ocean. You can take the elevator to the top floor in a wheelchair, and there is also a handicapped parking area and a wheelchair-accessible restroom. From Choshi Station (bus bound for Kawaguchi/Port Center) - Get off at the last stop (about 20 minutes).
"Wosse 21", which houses a shop and a restaurant, has a one-floor structure with a flat floor. There is a barrier-free toilet on the left side of the exit on the courtyard side of the seafood sales center "Wosse 21". The space in this private room is small, and is barely large enough to fit a standard wheelchair. The barrier-free toilets at Choshi Port Tower have more space. There are no critical areas that are not wheelchair accessible.
The handicapped parking area is a regular parking lot. There is a public restroom next door with a disabled toilet. The parking lot for Inubo Terasu Terrace is located behind the store. If you park here, go through the slope to avoid stairs and enter the store.
Inubo Terasu Terrace is a 2-floor facility. There is one barrier-free toilet on the 1st floor. There is an elevator in the building, allowing wheelchair users to move up and down the floors.
The first floor has a bakery, light snacks and cafe, local beer brewery, vegetable store, craft gallery, and tourist information corner.
On the 2nd floor, there is a product shop called Inubo Terasu Terrace Market, a corner with hammock benches for children to play on, and an indoor observation terrace. All facilities are barrier-free, and there are no stairs that cannot be used by wheelchairs.
The "Horizon Observatory" is located on Mt. Atago, the highest mountain in Choshi. The Corridor Terrace and Rooftop Observation Deck are not accessible to wheelchair users. Part of the 2nd floor and the entire 1st floor are wheelchair accessible. There is a staircase route from the general parking lot to the entrance of "Horizon Observatory". Therefore, there is a separate "disabled parking lot" with 5 parking spaces at the back of the 1st floor.
From the "Parking Lot for Persons with Disabilities", use the up ramp to go to the 1st floor. Barrier-free toilets are located on the 1st floor. The toilet was a standard size and had simple facilities. The facility has three floors and a rooftop structure, and there is one elevator.
The 3rd floor observation deck offers a 330° view of the horizon. There is an observation lounge "Cafe 330°" on the 3rd floor indoors. Take the elevator to the 3rd floor and look at the area visible from inside the cafe. This is the limit for wheelchairs. The important observation deck is not suitable for wheelchairs.
On the 3rd floor, there is a 3rd floor corridor terrace outside the observation lounge where you can enjoy a wonderful view. A ramp is provided at the entrance of the manual door, allowing wheelchair access to the corridor terrace. However, the walls of the terrace are high and the view cannot be seen from a wheelchair. The only way to reach the rooftop observation deck is via the stairs from this corridor.
"Byobugaura" is the "Dover of the East" with cliffs stretching for approximately 10km. It has been designated as a national scenic spot and natural monument. Although it is a small part of the area, it is a sightseeing spot that can be approached by wheelchair.
Byobugaura in Choshi is accessible by wheelchair. "Inuiwa" and "Senkigaiwa" are also accessible from a wheelchair.
The promenade that connects to part of Byobugaura begins at Choshi Marina Beach. The entrance to the promenade is at the back of the parking lot. The most difficult part for wheelchair users is the entrance to the promenade. There is an unpaved section of about 10m, and there are small stairs at the connecting points. Still, it's a bumpy area that the average wheelchair user can clear if they proceed carefully. After passing through this unpaved section, the trail becomes a paved promenade. The surface of the promenade is basically a flat paved surface. The promenade continues for about 300 meters from the side of the beach. Although the scenery is as far as the eye can see, you can look up at part of the "Dover of the East" from your wheelchair.
Kimigahama, along with Inubosaki, is a scenic spot that represents Chiba Prefecture, with a coastline overlooking white sand, green pines, and the mighty Pacific Ocean. Kimigahama Beach has been selected as one of Japan's top 100 beaches and is one of Choshi's most representative scenic spots. The wheelchair-accessible restroom is located near the entrance to Kimigahama Shiosai Park and is often used by tourists and park users. It is an ordinary park with a lawn area and restrooms, but there is a promenade along the seashore from which you can enjoy the sea view of Kimigahama Beach.
However, there is basically a stair between the promenade and the sandy beach of Kimigahama Beach, so you need to be careful when heading from Kimigahama Shiosai Park to Kimigahama Beach.
