Tree Peonies
(Admiring the flowers)

At a glance

Peony (Paeonia × suffruticosa) is a plant of the genus Paeonia in the family Paeoniaceae. While the very similar plant, the Chinese peony, is a herbaceous plant, the Chinese peony is a woody plant. In English-speaking countries, both the flower and the Chinese peony are called "Peony", but when calling them as plants, the Chinese peony is called "Peony" and the Chinese peony is called "Tree peony".
It is said to have been introduced to Japan from China around the 8th century, and has a history of cultivation and breeding in Japan for over 1,000 years, and is also highly valued as a flower for tea ceremonies. It has been loved in Asia since ancient times, but now it is being bred in Europe and other places, and is loved all over the world.
